Two years ago, when I still lived in Amazon, my family decided to travel by car for 35 days around the area. One of the cities that we visited is a part of the Chapada das Mesas National Park, very small (23.979 residents) and named Carolina, state of Maranhão.
The architecture there is still from the city’s old days (lots of windows, low ceiling) and this tree in the picture was in front of our inn (house with white walls) and it is 113 years old.
When you get there, you have to hire a tour guide to do some of the tours this natural paradise offers. Believe me: it is impossible to go to certain waterfalls alone (pictures will prove it)
PEDRA CAÍDA NATIONAL PARK (Pedra Caída – Fallen Stone)
It’s an ecological reserve, with amazing waterfalls and natural pools. I met Mariana there, this macaw on my arm. Fear is all over my face, definitely or absolutely? 😀
>> Encanto Azul (Blue Enchantment): Located in the Cocal river. You cannot not fall in love with this crystal clear water, great temperature for swimming and appreciation of the fishes around you. Don’t forget to bring goggles. (Wikipedia) God knows how much I wanted my water proof camera that day!
You have to hike in this place for 30 – 40 minutes…
To find this!
Makes you tired, but it’s worth it! This is a typical flower of this place. Pretty, huh? But it smells terrible!
>> Poço Azul (Blue Well): Located in the Cocal river. Crystal clear water in a natural pool with over 5 meters – 16 feet – of depth is what makes us fall in love with it. (Wikipedia)
Guess what? Hike again + staircase of 82 meters – 269 feet.
And finally we found what we were looking for…
Saint Paula’s Waterfall
Another waterfall, I can’t find the name anywhere, I’m sorry.
My dad venturing himself
My brother deleted the pictures (not on purpose!) of two waterfalls from our camera, one called Capelão (Chaplain) and the other one’s name is Santuário (Sanctuary)… They’re gorgeous! Well hidden treasures of mother nature.
>> Capelão: Beautiful! (Flickr)
>> Santuário: You cross this narrow path to reach it. (SkyScraperCity)
In this picture you see Morro do Chapéu (Hat’s Mountain) and despite being outside of the Chapada das Mesas National Park, it’s considered one of the symbols of the region.
Like I previously wrote, we traveled for 35 days and this was one of the cities among so many others I visited. Soon I will write more about the others and unknown places in Brazil 😀 there are other waterfalls and natural pools, but those above deserve recognition.
What a great place. I would like to visit there. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to stop by, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Google Carolina, MA – Brazil. Who knows what you might find? Cheap hotels? 😀
I don’t think you are doing anything wrong – you just need to plaster your pictures all over Pinterest. They are beautiful – your photography skills are wonderful. I would give anything to be able to take pictures this lovely. Make sure you offer lots of ways for people to follow you like Bloglovin’ – that’s a big one.
I don’t know how to use Pinterest. I’ve never tried, to be honest. Do you think it’s worth it? Thank you so much. I’m trying to put together an “archive” here – which seems impossible to me haha! – but I’ll take your advice on Bloglovin’.
Oh yes! Pinterest is often my most active referrer – like today. You write your article and then pin your own. Follow lots of people and many (like me) will follow you back. If I repin one of your pins then all my followers will see it and it will multiply exponentially. Like you, I really didn’t think it was worth it…….but only for about a month!
Wow sounds like a good deal to me! I am going to travel to another beach/lagoon place in August and I might use Pinterest then! I’ll try to take great photos and post them here 🙂 if I succeed I PROMISE I’ll mention you! Hahah 😀
Gorgeous.
It really is, isn’t it? In August I’ll be traveling again… Can’t wait!
Thank you for the visit and the like of my post “Soft Light Background”.
You’re welcome. Thank you for taking the time to stop by as well.
The photos of those waterfalls are truly stunning! Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog!
Thank you, baconbiscuit212! If you could see them in person, you’d like it even more. And thanks again for stopping by 🙂
Lovely compilation! 🙂
Thank you so much, Tanumoy! And thanks for stopping by!
Always a pleasure… 🙂
I will post soon. I’m studying and didn’t have the time to check your page and others, but I will 🙂
Take your sweet time! All eternity is yours… 🙂
Amen, hehe.
Amen. 🙂 🙂
Simply wonderful ! You need no help at all !!!
Wow thank you so much! Means a lot!
Lovely places, Wonderful photos!
Thank you! Not that many people know Carolina exists, I’m glad I’m spreading the news to the world 🙂
And you have good reasons to be! May I ask if you have special music, that you can post…As you can see I’m full of music so to speak…And traditional health plants: I know about Yerba Mate, uno de gato, and few others…But Amazonia will always be the nature’s pharmacy, I think…
I like the way you past bilingually, I got only a shortcut to bing translator, and suing google as browser offers an automatic translator, quite ready to use (not for poetry with deep metaphors) It offers to translate all blogging languages…So to speak…
So glad to have come to know each other…
The next fado goes to you thaygoulart!
George.
If you’re looking for Portuguese – English translations you should trust me more than Google or Bing… Posting in 2 languages is hard, but I am loving it and I am glad I decided to do it, enhanced my vocabulary already. Thanks! I’ll share some music I’m keen on, can you suggest any genres? Amazônia is one of our treasures… We have to take care of it… Speaking of health plants, here’s one for you to study: guaraná.
Thanks for stopping by again, Thay.
My pleasure, Thay! Music…I was thinking folklore, traditional instruments.
macaw on your arm:
friendly fellow it seems!
And wow: the waterfalls!
She was too friendly! Kept eating my salad while my family and I had lunch 🙂 yes, the waterfalls… Wow indeed.
How much I would like to try that clear water. looks like a paradise.
It really is. God must have been inspired when He designed Carolina’s waterfalls 😀
